Welcome to our first edition of Newslist! Gamamari’s weekly recap of national and international news. The writers at Gamamari will be delivering a brief wrap-up of what’s been happening each week. We probably also have longer form articles on a lot of the topics we write about – our goal here is to keep you informed!
Firstly, this will be a very brief summary of what’s been happening this week. Whilst you can read this to get a general overview of these events, I’d encourage you to dig a bit more deeply into these topics. So, throughout, I have embedded hyperlinks for each story, if you wish for a more in-depth reportage. Some of these are paywalled, and others are not.
To kick us off, last Sunday, Trump decided to let fly at Iran, bombing three of Iran’s nuclear sites: Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. At a press conference, Albanese announced that “Australia supports the U.S. military strike on Iran”. He refused questions at the conference. A NATO summit (a meeting between heads of state and government of NATO member countries) occurred on Tuesday and Wednesday, resulting in a very delicate ceasefire between Israel, Iran, and the US.
Also on Tuesday, the state budget was revealed by NSW treasurer Daniel Mookhey. Key parts include $1 billion going to fast track 5000 new homes over the next five years, $82.3 million for 75 new buses (if you’ve ever caught the 370 you know how important this is), and some aid to relieve cost of living pressures through things like aiding first home buyers, and energy bill relief.

Greg Josephson, founder of Universal Store, was found dead in the second story of his home, whilst a party raged on below.
Following Macquarie University, Charles Sturt University announced to its staff that they will be cutting jobs and degrees, to save $35 million. Charles Sturt University is one of Australia’s biggest regional universities.
For our western Sydney readers, whilst this may not be crazy news, Lime bikes will be coming to western Sydney! By the end of the year, the green bikes will be spotted flying around Parramatta and Sydney Olympic park. If you’re a westie like me, this is almost news of the year. Also out west, Greens member, Hannah Thomas, who recently sat down for an interview with Gamamari, sustained major facial injuries as she was arrested at a pro-Palestine protest.
Unexpectedly, Anna Wintour steps down as editor-in-chief of US Vogue, though she remains their global editorial director. Also, M3GAN 2.0 is officially out in theatres, with some movie-goers speculating it’s way worse than the first one… I guess you’ll have to find out for yourself…
So, one month into the term, and World War 3 has basically erupted. Sit tight, stay aware, and we’ll chat next week, in our next newslist. (If we’re still here – odds are that Trump will have blown up half the world by then).
